Shirley Culp

Shirley Culp, 86, passed away peacefully with her son by her side on the morning of Monday, July 11, 2022. Shirley was born July 5, 1936, in Uniontown, Kansas, to Bessie (Pauline) and Lawrence Cowan. She met and married her husband, Harold Culp, Sr. in 1954.

As Harold was in the Air Force, Shirley lived in many different places including Germany and Alaska, before raising her four children in Ft. Scott, Kansas. They finally all settled in Balch springs, Texas where she spent the remainder of her years.

While in Texas, she worked for the offices of JC Penny for many years until her retirement. It was during these years she enjoyed quality time with her family, including her eight grandchildren, all of whom have fond memories of her homemade pizza and firecracker personality. Shirley was also a lover of animals. She took in numerous strays throughout her years, opening up her garage to shelter and feed the neighborhood cats. As well as opening her home to the little dogs that would find their way to her. Many times her family would enter her home to the delicious scent of roasting chicken, only to learn it was meant for those little dogs.

Shirley is survived by her son, Kevan Culp (Rachel) of Mesquite, Texas; Grandchildren Nathan Culp and Monica Brockman of Kansas City, MO; Samuel and Kylee Culp of Ft. Scott, Kansas; John Irvin Jr. of Dallas, Texas; Michael Book of Laurel, Indiana; Dusty Scott and Raven Culp of Mesquite, Texas; as well as 10 great-grandchildren and numerous other friends and loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pauline and Lawrence; her husband, Harold Lloyd Culp Sr.; her sons, Harold Lloyd (Pete) Culp Jr., and Darryl Culp; and her daughter, Sherise Tuggle.

Rev. Jim Logan will conduct funeral services at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 18, 2022, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home with burial following at the Uniontown Cemetery. Condolences may be submitted to the online guestbook at konantz-cheney.com.
