Ronald Lee Owen

Ronald Lee Owen, age 83, a resident of Basehor, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 22, 2026, at his home. He was born September 22, 1942, in Ft. Scott, Kansas, the son of Guss McClellan and Lillian Lorine Jamett McClellan. Three months before his birth, Ron’s father was killed while serving in World War II. Ron was later raised by his adoptive father, Vince Owen. Ron grew up in Ft. Scott and graduated from the Ft. Scott High School. He then served with the United States Navy during Vietnam from 1961 to 1964. He was united in marriage to Charlotte Simons on May 27, 1964, at Girard, Kansas. Throughout his life he worked in maintenance at various hospitals and schools in the Olathe, Springfield and Kansas City areas. He worked as director of facilities and engineering throughout his career. Ron loved the outdoors and many memories were made while hunting, fishing and camping.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte, of the home; two sons, Kenneth Lee Owen and wife, Carol of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Brian Owen of Grandview, Missouri; six grandchildren, Cody, Tyler, Samantha, Jessica, Katharine and Sebastian McClellan Owen. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, G.K. Miller, a nephew, John Miller and two nieces, Denise Miller and Karen Jamison. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Robert Owen, a sister, Rhonda Jamison, and a sister-in-law, Sharon Miller.

There was cremation. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, July 8th at the U. S. National Cemetery in Ft. Scott, Kansas. Family and friends may meet at the Cheney Witt Chapel prior to leaving for the cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Ft. Scott, Kansas.
