Richard Scott “Dick” Secrest

Richard Scott “Dick” Secrest, age 93 of Nevada, Missouri formerly of Pleasanton, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.  He was born the son of Ancil and Beulah (Jackson) Secrest on May 29, 1929 at Edgerton, Kansas.  Richard married Betty Slater on October 18, 1952 at Pleasanton, Kansas.  He served in the National Guard.  Richard owned a full-service filling station in Olathe, Kansas until the mid 1970’s and was a supervisor for Beachner Construction, he also was a gardener and woodworker and on the Johnson County fair board for 15 years starting in the late 70’s. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Clyde, Robert and Wilbert Secrest and two sisters, Mary Avery and Elizabeth Dingus.  Richard is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty, two sons, Richard Slater and Russell Scott, a daughter, Connie Northup, a sister, Alice Searl, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held at 10 am, Saturday, May 20, 2023 at the Pleasanton Cemetery.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or the Presbyterian Church of Nevada, Missouri and be sent in care of Schneider Funeral Home P.O.
