Kale L. Roberts

Kale L. Roberts, 94, of Fort Scott, passed away early Thursday morning, April 15, 2021, at Medicalodge. He was born January 19, 1927, in Mount Hope, Kansas, the son of Del and Mabel (Krasenberg) Roberts. He married Thorene F. Johnson February 1, 1947, in Mount Hope, Kansas, and she survives him at Medicalodge.

Kale was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in occupied Europe 1945 -1946, and in the Army reserves from 1947-1953.  Kale and Thorene lived in Wichita for 66 years and were founding members of West Heights Methodist Church.  Kale was also one of the founders of Westurban Baseball in Wichita.  He retired from the Boeing Company in 1985 after 35 years and spent many of his retirement years raising and riding quarter horses.

In addition to his wife Thorene, Kale is also survived by his children, Kent L. Roberts, and wife Becki, of Fort Scott, and Kim A. Roberts and wife Kalyn, of Plano, Texas; three sisters, Noreen Schneider, of Yakima, Washington, Shirley Strausbaugh, and Sheryl Hoffman, both of Spring Hill, Kansas; three grandchildren, Brooke Roberts-Higgins, of Carthage, Missouri, Scott Roberts, of Longview, Texas, and Ryan Roberts, of Plano, Texas; four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Coleen Smith and Alma Kay Young; and three brothers, Reed Roberts, Gary Roberts, and Jerry Roberts.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2021, at the Mount Hope Cemetery, 28600 W. 93rd, in Mount Hope, Kansas under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. The family requests memorial gifts be made in Kale’s memory to Compassus Hospice, 200 East Centennial, Suite 9, Pittsburg, KS 66762, or may be left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W.
