Joe David Fleming, age 74, Linn Valley, Kansas passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022. He was born on December 28, 1947, at Amoret, Missouri the son of Earl Edward and Nellie Mae (Bishop) Fleming. He graduated from La Cygne Rural High School in the Class of 1965. He joined the Army National Guard and did basic training at Fort Leonard Wood. Joe was united in marriage to Vicky Ellen McRae on November 26, 1971, and they became the parents of two sons.
As a talented mechanic, he worked on tractors out in the field, buses and automobiles in the shop, and on heavy equipment for P&M Coal Company. He also spent time in the construction industry building houses. When his boys were young, he was an active father, coaching baseball and cheering them on in their other sports. As a grandfather, he took pleasure in attending as many activities as he could fit in. He was a member of the La Cygne Christian Church. Joe was quick to make friends and loved to share jokes. Joe was lovingly assigned the title of “Story Coordinator” for the Fleming Lawn Care where retelling big stories, resting in the swing, and going to lunch were his top priority for 36 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Edward, Bill and Jim Fleming: three sisters, Susanna Fleming, Bonnie Bland, and Hazel Robbins and an infant sister. Joe is survived by his wife, Vicky, two sons, Eric David Fleming and wife Tally, John Kevin “Jake” Fleming and wife Cambria, a brother, Wilbur Fleming and wife Dee, a sister, Jessie Russell, seven grandchildren, Meghan, Allison, Megan, Paige, Bryan, Jenna, and Cale, and one great grandchild, Brynnley.
Funeral service will be 2 pm Thursday, October 6, 2022, at the Calvary Baptist Church, La Cygne, Kansas. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Calvary Baptist.
