Jeffery Lynn Brown

September 10, 1958 – October 22, 2025

Jeffery Lynn Brown, age 67, a resident of Ft. Scott, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the Mercy Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas. He was born September 10, 1958, in Fulton, Kansas, the son of Derald Dean Brown and Fern Rexine Wardrip Brown. Lynn grew up in Fulton and attended Fulton school until it consolidated with Ft. Scott. He graduated from the Ft. Scott High School. Lynn was united in marriage to Melissa Grigsby on September 16, 1979, at Prescott, Kansas. Together they raised a family built on love and faith. Lynn was a talented welder and used this skill at various companies in Ft. Scott. He later worked in maintenance at Ft. Scott Community College from 1989 to 2003 when his health caused him to retire early. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed sports of all kinds and loved to watch his children and grandchildren compete in their athletic events. He was a member of the Cherry Grove Baptist Church.

Lynn’s legacy will be carried on by his loving wife, Melissa and their children, Jon Brown (Allison) of Redfield, Kansas, David Brown (Sheila) of Arma, Kansas and Amelia Wiley (Dakota) of Ft. Scott; and eight grandchildren, Dean, Henry, Oliver, Justin, Elaina, Kayli, Madi and Blakelynn. Two more grandchildren are on the way. Also surviving are two sisters, Shirley Webber (Gary) of Paola, Kansas and Sharon Oakes (Jim) of Clarksville, Tennessee and a brother, Eddie Brown of Fulton, Kansas. Lynn was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher Lynn Brown and Daniel Joseph Brown as well as his parents, Dean and Fern Brown.

Rev. Mike Bright assisted by Lynn’s cousin, Destry Brown, will conduct funeral services at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, October 28th at the Cheney Witt Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 on Monday evening at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Private burial will take place in the Prescott Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Cherry Grove Baptist Church and may be left in the care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, KS 66701.
