Janie Alberta Locke, age 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in Fort Scott, Kansas, surrounded by love and held closely by her son.
She was born on April 21, 1945, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to her parents, Tommie Blaine Meeker Sr. and Elsie Meeker. Janie is survived by her son, Steven. Her dear brother, Tommie Blaine Meeker Jr., preceded her in death.
Janie grew up in Tulsa and, after graduating from East Central High School, began working in the financial industry for many years before moving into the importer/exporter service for many more years. Needing a change, she also spent a few years in Memphis before returning to Tulsa, where she procured parts for a private airline company before retiring in 2017.
Adored by all who met her, Janie loved coffee, movies, casino slot machines, and had an extensive menu collection from restaurants around the world. She also adamantly objected to any form of exercise!
Janie will be cremated in accordance with her wishes. A private ceremony will be held in celebration of her life. Cremation was handled by the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. Box 347, 201 S. Main St., Fort Scott, KS 66701. Words of remembrance may be submitted online at cheneywitt.com.
