George Wellington Jeffers, born July 2, 1930 in Centerville, Kansas. George was the fourth child and only son of parents Earl and Ellen (McCoubrie) Jeffers.

George grew up in Linn County, Kansas. The family lived on property out in the country until they moved into town, Blue Mound, where his father owed and worked a Feed Store. He graduated Blue Mound High in 1948. He enlisted in the Army and served in Korea. As a young man, George joined the Masons. He was raised in 1951 and followed the teachings while serving in the Army until his time was up with the service and ending with his final MOS as an Army Cook.

During his later High School years, he met Eva Nadine Jeffers. They married on Sept 22, 1950. From that union they had 5 children; 3 were born in Kansas; Karen Faye (Jeffers) Manning, Gale Wayne Jeffers, Bruce Lynn Jeffers, with the move to California, 2 born in California; Kathy Lee (Jeffers) Brown and Keith Allen Jeffers.

George, once out of the service, attended college. He started at Kansas University then transferred to Kansas State, located in Manhattan Kansas, where he graduated with an Architectural Degree. Prospect not being very favorable during those years to 1957, the young couple with 3 small children moved to California and lived there from 1957 to 1988 when, as senior adults, moved back to Kansas and settled in Centerville, Linn county.

During their years in California; George belonged to the Masonic Order and was also a member of Izaak Walton League, a National Conservation League of America. With the Izaak Walton League, there were many trips each year to Salton Sea located in the lower desert of Southern California. They did many dog shows which helped with his love of animals. There were many dogs and cats throughout his life in California. His love of the outdoors and nature was a big influence in his Architectural Designs for many forums. He helped design many city structures in Orange County California. He earned the California Architectural License to work in California after many years and was able to work under his own name and not as an Associate with any other Architectural firm. He also worked and received a License from the State of Hawaii, where the ecological and natural environment is very important for that state.

During his years in California, George became very involved and active with the Masonic Orders. With 5 children; 3 boys joined DeMolay and both girls joined the Order of Job”s Daughters. With and for the Masonic Order, he drafted and designed and built a Masonic Lodge located in Garden Grove, California, Masonic Lodge #351. He also chartered and raised another lodge in Tustin, California, Tustin Masonic Lodge #241. He became a Shriner during those years with the Al Malakai Order of Shriners located in Los Angeles, Calif. He joined the Eastern Star and was a Patron for the DeMolay Order and with the Order of Eastern Star. He also received the 33rd Degree from the Grand Lodge of Masons for his Masonic work in those fields of devotion.

In 1987, George and Nadine retired to Kansas. With his Architectural training, he designed and built his last home in Kansas with the eco features that he believed in. They had a pond with fish, a good sized garden and a chicken coop. They both worked the garden and the extra was sold in the Farmer”s Market around the county. Nadine”s love of chicken had her also selling eggs throughout the county as well.

While in Kansas; he helped raise a DeMolay Order for young men and continued with his Masonic teachings and instructions with many other men and boys throughout the state. He was well received by many with his instructions and teachings of the Masonic Order. He had a great orator persona and was a visiting Patron or Installing Master at many functions.

George is survived by an older sister, Eliouse Towle who lives in Walnut Grove, Missouri. He is survived by his 5 children; 2 daughters, Karen (Jeffers) Manning, Kathy (Jeffers) Brown, and 3 sons; Gale Wayne Jeffers, Bruce Lynn Jeffers and Keith Allen Jeffers. There are 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren still living in other states. Two older sisters preceded him in passing, Ruth Ellen (Jeffers) Castle-Smith and Frances Nogles.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Friends may call from 10 am to service time.
