Freddie “Fred” Walrod

Freddie Dean Walrod, 82, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at his home.

Fred was born September 20, 1941 in Prescott, Kansas, the son of George Morris and Marjorie (Keith) Walrod. He graduated from Prescott High School and then attended Fort Scott JUCO and then got his bachelors at Pitt State.

Fred worked numerous jobs. He taught and coached in UnionTown for a brief time, he worked at LaCygne Power Plant, he moved to Burlington to work for Daniels Construction as a Supervisor over The Wolf Creek Nuclear Plant. He then worked for Coffey County Engineer Department which is where he retired after 20 years. Fred was not one to sit still so he then started his own Surveying Company, Survey One.

He operated his Surveying company going to neighboring counties to perform surveys which gave him tremendous joy. Fred also enjoyed umpiring and refereeing all sports which was something he continued to do from his recliner while watching tv. Fred’s other hobbies included gardening, fishing, and hunting.

In 1962 Fred and Juanita Sutcliffe were united in marriage and had two children, Paige and Derek. They were later divorced.  

In June of 1987 Fred married Sharon Carey (Hotchkiss). To this second union he gained two step-children Greg and Robyn. 

From his four children he was blessed with his pride and joy, 7 grandchildren, 2 girls and five boys.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Larry Walrod. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sharon Walrod, his daughter Paige (Dr. Daniel) Metsch and their kids Jalen, Saige, Zoey Metsch, son Derek and his son Trent, his step-son Greg Carey and his son Dalton Carey, as well as a step-daughter Robyn (Dave) Williams and their sons Colton and Chase Williams. He is also survived by his siblings, Bub Walrod out of Fort Scott, Ks, Sue (Jerry) Clark out of Adrian, Missouri, and Phyllis (Terry) Blaser out of Englewood, Florida. 

The family will meet with friends from 6:30 P.M- 8:00 P.M. June 17, 2024 at Jones Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington, Ks.

Burial will follow at the Prescott Cemetery at 3 p.m.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Prescott Cemetery.
