Rick Nash

November 13, 1958 — February 23, 2026
Lawrence, Kansas

Rick “Rockin’ Rick Nash” Nash, 67, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away on February 23, 2026, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas. Rick was born to parents Joe Victor Nash and Janice Maline Heitman on November 13, 1958, in Kansas City, Kansas.

Rick married Mary Rose Keyes in 1979, and one son was born to this union. In 1986, he married Kristin Robinson, and two sons were born to this marriage.

Rick’s biggest and only dream was to be a radio broadcaster, which he pursued early in life by building a radio station in his basement that reached the local neighborhood. From there, he had the opportunity to work at multiple stations in and around the Kansas City area. His career included time at stations in Ottawa, Kansas; 99KG in Salina, Kansas; 71 WHB; KY102; “Nash at Night” on 61 Country AM; Program Director at KOMB 103.9 in Fort Scott, Kansas; and on-air talent at KSEK 99.1 and “Rockin’ Rick Nash” on KWXD 103.5 in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Rick’s quick wit could bring laughter to any setting he was in. He was a devoted Kansas City Royals fan and fondly remembered broadcasting live on KY102 the night of the 1985 I-70 Showdown Series. He was also a Kansas City Chiefs fan and could quote statistics from several years back.

Rick’s love for being around people allowed him to share his light abundantly and form many friendships, often considering friends as family. He also shared his unconditional love with God and his family. Having the opportunity to fulfill the role of “PaPa” to immediate and extended family members was a special joy for him.

Rick was preceded in death by his father and mother, as well as his grandparents. He is survived by his sons, Ricky Jr. (Tonya Lopp) of Prescott, Kansas; Sheridan (Alexis) of Fort Scott, Kansas; and Drew of Lawrence, Kansas; a brother, Michael (Rebecca) Nash; and sisters Lisa (Cheri) Collins and Lavonne (Brad) Huddleston. He is also survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at Brooklyn Cemetery in La Cygne, Kansas, on April 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. An outdoor gathering of family and friends will be held at the La Cygne City Park open pavilion following the service, with an open-dish meal.

Memorial donations may be made to the Rick Nash Memorial at Schneider Funeral Home, 202 N. 4th St., P.O. Box 304, La Cygne, KS 66040.
