Sherman Leroy Spence, age 84, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away Friday, December 6, 2024. He was born on August 9, 1940 in Welch, Oklahoma the son of Roy and Sadie Reavis Spence.
After graduating from Pleasanton High School Sherm attended Pittsburg State Teachers College for two and half years. He was united in marriage to Reta Coffel on June 12, 1965. They worked together and later owned and operated Cook-Spence TV. He served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Pleasanton Presbyterian Church, Lions Club, Jaycees, and served on the Pleasanton School Board, and Pleasanton Cemetery Association. Sherm enjoyed fishing and hunting of all types, deer, upland birds, and migratory birds.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Forrest and Kenneth Spence, two sisters, Wilma Town, and Lois Lewis, and a brother in law, Devaughn Cook. Sherman is survived by his wife, Reta, a son, Craig Spence(Jennifer), a daughter, Cindy Inman(Bryan), a sister, Julia Cook, eight grandchildren, Baker(Cheyenne), Chandler(Eric), Myndi(Les), Hayley, Cassidy, Brianna, Blaine, and Blake, and nine great grandchildren, Taylor, Tripp, Thea, Marvin, Mackenzie, Jackson, Aliyah, Alainee, and Teaven.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held 11 am Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Cremations, Pleasanton Chapel. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to service time at the Pleasanton Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to Pleasanton/Jayhawk Linn Trap Shooting Team or Linn County Hunter Safety.
