Phyllis Irene Best, age 75, Grain Valley, Missouri, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023.  She was born in Mound City, Kansas on April 24, 1948 the daughter of Orville and Esther Earline Nation Croan.  She worked as a postal clerk before retirement.  She was united in marriage to Joseph “Joe” Best on March 24, 1984 in Independence, Missouri.  She was an accomplished painter, loved the outdoors and tending to her garden, especially her flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Katelynn Christine.  Phyllis is survived by her husband, Joe, two sons, Daniel Best and David Best, two daughters, Rene Davis and Deidra Rumi, a sister, Marilyn Jannsen, five grandchildren, Isaih, Seth, Michael, Rebecca, and Stephanie, and three great grandchildren, Zander, Noah, and Emma.

A graveside funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at the Curry Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10 am to departure for the cemetery on Wednesday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.  Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.
