James Dean Allen

Jim was the third child born to M. Ward and S. Jean Lindsey Allen on August 10, 1951. He passed away Sunday, February 26, 2023. He attended high school at La Cygne Rural High in La Cygne, KS. He graduated in 1969 and attended college at Ft. Scott Community College, Ft. Scott, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father, Ward, his mother, Jean and his brother, Bill.

He is survived by a son, Rocky Allen (Tabitha), three daughters, Kerry Akes (James), Jamie Schomaker (Ron), and Tammy Alen (Colby), a brother Vaughn (Nancy), sister, Mitzi (Pat) Coe and Cheri (Chuck) Dunlop, a sister in law, Brenda Allen, three step daughters, Kristie Jo Clearwater, Rhealeti Mitchell, and Crystal Berry, and eight grandchildren, Tommy Nickell Jr., Samantha Lamb, Trent Allen, Cody Allen, Ella Schomaker, Case Schomaker, Cody Wyrick, and Clayton Wyrick.

Jim loved the farm and farming life. He had a keen awareness to the land, the health of the animals and an intensity to take care of both. He worked a great deal with his Dad in a farming operation in the late 60s. Then partnered with his brother Vaughn in a custom hay operation, Allen Brothers. They invested in modern equipment and put-up hay all over the county and did well with hard work and the guidance of their father. This operation funded cattle and land enjoyed by both boys. In 1971 they purchased their Grandad’s farm north of La Cygne. In his younger days, Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked to garden, mow the yard, and ride horses. Jim also enjoyed all kinds of sports and was a big Kansas City Chiefs fan.

Later from the encouragement of his brother Bill, Jim started employment with GM assembling cars at the plant in Fairfax, Kansas City. He spent the greater portion of his life at this plant until he retired and spent his post GM years in Pleasanton on his farm and the surrounding areas.
