Joyce Elaine Hueston, age 84, Mapleton, Kansas went to her heavenly home, Saturday, January 7, 2023. Joyce was born June 8, 1938, in Fort Scott, Kansas the daughter of Walter Albert and Laura Faye (Davis) Sutterby. She graduated from Blue Mound High School in the Class of 1956. Joyce married Raymond Hueston on March 29, 1964, in the Mapleton United Methodist Church. She worked for Bourbon County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Department for thirty-five years before retiring.
Joyce was very active within the Mapleton community throughout her entire life. After retiring, Joyce took great pride in delivering food and water to firemen while they were working a fire, no matter the time of day. She was also a very dedicated member of the Mapleton United Methodist Church. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Raymond in 2014, a granddaughter, Stephanie Leann Hueston, a grandson, Justin Hueston, great grandson, T.J. Burton, her parents, sister, Peggy McNally and a brother, Marlyn Sutterby.
Joyce is survived by a son, Mike Hueston and wife Lori, a daughter, Jolene Crystal and husband Marty, ex daughter in law, Ginger Hueston, siblings, Jack Sutterby and wife Bonnie, and Sharon Lund, grandchildren, Katie Towne and husband Mike and their children Colby and Paityn Hueston, Zak Hueston and Hunter Casey and daughter Brylynn Hueston, Raylene Burton and husband Thomas and their children, Olivia and Watson Burton, Kaylyn Simpson and husband Kalen, their child, Monroe Simpson, Callie Crystal and Devon LeFever, and Emma Stewart. Joyce was also loved by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joyce was known for being a caretaker of all, her bright smile and laugh.
Funeral service will be 2 pm Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at the Mapleton United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Mapleton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday, January 10, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel.
